Wandsworth Case Study

17th October | Case Study |

Since 2016, Barnardo’s have been supporting schools in the London borough of Wandsworth to deliver Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to primary school pupils.

SEL lessons delivered cover the five core competencies of social and emotional learning:

  1. Self-Awareness
  2. Self-Management
  3. Social Awareness
  4. Relationship Skills
  5. Responsible Decision Making

By focusing explicitly on these 5 core components, the PATHS® Programme helps teachers address barriers to learning. Through a systematic and developmental procedure for reducing the adverse factors which negatively affect a child’s adaptive behaviour, children are better equipped and more able to profit from his/her educational experiences.

This case study shines the spotlight on these 5 competencies and how children in Wandsworth have benefited from them.
